La Louisiane is not a palace, but a historic two-star hotel. It is a literary hotel welcoming artists and travellers, clean and tidy, and equipped with the facilities travellers need, including two lifts, safes, bath towels, Wi-Fi, kettles with tea and coffee, refrigerators, etc. The rooms are simply decorated, and all have quality bedding (2-metre-long beds).

Since 1823, the Hotel has welcomed travellers from more than 120 countries who appreciate its character and its ideal location in the heart of Saint-Germain-des-Prés, the most sought-after district of Paris and immediately adjacent to the Latin Quarter.

Our promise is to offer you a unique experience in the heart of historic Paris, a city of art and nightlife, lively by day and by night yet well protected by the police, within a five-minute walk of the Louvre Museum, Notre-Dame Cathedral, the Pont des Arts and the banks of the Seine, Saint-Sulpice Church, the Abbey Church of Saint-Germain-des-Prés, Café de Flore, Les Deux Magots and the Luxembourg Gardens.

To that end, we offer one of the best value-for-money options for staying in central Paris, in the authentic atmosphere of a family-run, independent hotel that is easy to reach from the railway stations and airports.

These General Terms and Conditions of Sale of Hôtel La Louisiane (hereinafter the “Hotel”) form a single contractual set. Any reservation entails full and unconditional acceptance of these Terms. The customer (hereinafter the “Customer”) accepts and undertakes to comply with them, and their provisions apply both to the Customer and to any occupant for whom the Customer is responsible. Every person staying at the Hotel shall be regarded as a Customer for the purposes of these Terms, including where the reservation was made through an online booking platform, a travel agency or any other intermediary.

1. Room types and meeting rooms

The Hotel offers private guest rooms, each with its own private bathroom and toilet, overlooking either the courtyard, Rue de Buci or Rue de Seine.

Room types are: Single (1 person); Classic Double or Superior Double with one double bed, or Twin with 2 single beds (up to 2 people); Triple (up to 3 people); Quadruple (up to 4 people); and Suites comprising 2 connecting rooms with several single and/or double beds (for 1 to 6 people), with one or two bathrooms.

The Hotel can accommodate approximately 100 guests. It also rents several meeting rooms, which it can equip as required (approximately 40 to 70 m²), subject to availability.

2. Arrival and check-in documents

The Hotel requires the Customer to complete the registration form accurately, using the form or medium provided by the Hotel before or upon arrival.

The Hotel may ask the Customer to present an official document to verify his or her identity where such verification is necessary. Any formalities required by law, including the French individual police registration form (fiche individuelle de police) where applicable, are completed in accordance with the regulations in force.

The Hotel reserves the right to refuse access to persons: 1. whose attire is indecent or extremely unkempt; 2. whose clothing is intended to conceal the face, except in the circumstances permitted by law (French Law No. 2010-1192 of 11 October 2010); 3. whose behaviour is noisy, inappropriate, contrary to public order, intoxicated or physically or verbally aggressive; 4. who breach hygiene rules; 5. who have made or disseminated statements damaging to the Hotel’s reputation or brand, or insulting, threatening or manifestly unlawful statements, or who have engaged in harassment of the Hotel, its staff or its Customers; 6. who bring a manifestly excessive volume of luggage; 7. who have caused a disturbance to the Hotel, its staff or its Customers; 8. who have left an unpaid bill at the Hotel; 9. who have refused to complete the registration form; 10. who have refused to comply with the check-in rules; and 11. more generally, who refuse to comply with these Terms.

Due to the configuration of the building, in particular the limited width of certain landings and corridor passages, wheelchair circulation is not possible throughout all areas of the Hotel. Information on the Hotel’s accessibility arrangements is available from Reception and in the public accessibility register (registre public d’accessibilité).

3. Access to the Hotel and rooms & security

Rooms are available from 5:00 p.m., unless different arrangements were expressly stated at the time of booking. The Customer may not require access to the room before that time unless agreed by the Hotel. The Hotel may ask any occupant to present an official document to verify his or her identity where such verification is necessary.

An access card for the room is issued to the Customer on arrival (check-in).

Rooms must be vacated before 10:00 a.m. on the day of departure. A departure after this time will be charged as an additional night, unless the Hotel has agreed in advance to a late check-out on the agreed terms. If the Customer wishes to keep the room for an additional night, payment for that room must be made before 10:00 a.m., subject to availability and the Hotel’s agreement. Once check-out has been completed and the access card returned, the Customer may no longer access the room previously occupied. In addition, every room is booked for a specified number of persons: to ensure compliance with the Hotel’s safety rules, the Customer must not accommodate any additional person. If this rule is breached, the Hotel may charge the applicable supplement or, if the room’s maximum occupancy is exceeded, require undeclared persons to leave.

The Customer must ensure that the door to the room is closed when leaving, even briefly. The Customer must also not obstruct the automatic door closer, including while inside the room.

No visitor who is not a Customer may enter a room or use shared areas without the Hotel’s prior permission.

4. Reservations

The Hotel reserves the right to refuse any reservation request for: 1. a stay of fewer than two (2) nights; 2. more than eight (8) persons; or 3. dates more than thirty (30) days in advance.

Minors who are not accompanied by a person exercising parental authority must present written authorisation issued by the person exercising parental authority, whose identity may be verified by any appropriate means.

A reservation commits the Hotel to the room type requested, but not to any particular room identified by its number, location within the building or specific characteristics, unless expressly agreed in advance by the Hotel.

Where objectively necessary, in particular because of a technical incident, an accident or other event affecting the premises, urgent works, a safety requirement or unforeseen unavailability, the Hotel reserves the right to: 1. split a reservation between several rooms during the stay, without changing the agreed price, provided that the rooms allocated are of the same or a higher category; 2. allocate, at the agreed price, a room of a higher category than the one booked; or 3. ask a Customer during the stay to move to another room of the same type or a higher category.

Any reservation request that has not been confirmed by an effective payment, whether partial or in full, is not binding on the Hotel and may be disregarded. Any reservation offer and the quoted price expire at midnight if they are not accepted and paid for on the day on which they are sent, or at the moment when another Customer books the last available room of the type offered. The Hotel may change the prices and quotations offered for any reservation that has not yet been confirmed.

The Hotel may require advance payment of between fifty per cent (50%) and one hundred per cent (100%) of the price as a deposit qualifying as “arrhes” under French law.

5. Photos and videos of the Hotel

Photographs, images and videos showing the rooms are provided as illustrations of the relevant room category. Decoration, layout, exact dimensions and views may vary from one room to another within the same category. They do not guarantee the allocation of any particular room unless the Hotel has expressly agreed otherwise.

6. Prices

Prices initially quoted include one or more rooms. Any additional room requested will be charged separately at the rate then in force. Rates may change until a reservation has been confirmed. The price confirmed at the time of booking is the price applicable to the stay, subject to any changes subsequently requested by the Customer.

Rates quoted for reservations that have not yet been confirmed may in particular be increased on public holidays, during major events in Paris, at weekends and during holiday periods.

7. Payment for the stay

The total price of the stay must be paid in euros (€) no later than check-in on arrival at the Hotel. With the Hotel’s prior agreement, the Customer may pay in a currency other than the euro, using the month-end exchange rate for the previous month established by the Banque de France. In that case, the price of the services will be increased by ten per cent (10%).

If full payment is not made, the Hotel reserves the right to refuse access to the room and to the Hotel.

Cheques, French holiday vouchers (chèques-vacances), gift vouchers and similar instruments are not accepted.

Any amount remaining due in respect of a stay that has already begun shall become payable upon presentation of an invoice. At the time of booking or check-in, the Hotel may place a pre-authorisation of €100 on the Customer’s payment card, of which the Customer is informed at the time of booking. The Customer expressly authorises the Hotel to charge that card, including after departure, for amounts due in respect of the stay and for the charges provided for in these Terms, upon sending a detailed invoice by email.

In the event of any dispute, complaint or disagreement concerning all or part of an invoice, the Customer shall pay the undisputed amount without delay and notify the Hotel in writing of the reason for, and amount of, the dispute within fifteen (15) days from the end of the stay. After that period, the service and invoice shall be deemed accepted, without prejudice to any statutory rights, remedies or time limits available to the Customer.

8. Cancellation

For a reservation to be confirmed, at least half of the agreed price of the stay must have been paid as a deposit qualifying as “arrhes” under French law.

Any cancellation must be received by the Hotel in writing no later than 5:00 p.m., Paris time, eight (8) calendar days before the scheduled arrival date. In that case, the amount already paid will be converted into a credit for a future stay at the Hotel.

Any cancellation received fewer than eight (8) days but at least seventy-two (72) hours before 5:00 p.m. on the scheduled arrival date will result in the amount of that credit being reduced by half.

Any cancellation received fewer than seventy-two (72) hours before 5:00 p.m. on the scheduled arrival date will not give rise to any refund or credit. Any credit is valid for one (1) year from its date of issue. The stay for which the credit is used must be both booked and completed before that period expires. Once that period has expired, any unused amount will remain with the Hotel.

If the Hotel cancels a reservation and the sums paid qualify as “arrhes” under French law, they will be refunded to the Customer in accordance with the applicable statutory provisions, including at twice the amount paid where required by law.

In accordance with Article L.221-28(12) of the French Consumer Code, the Customer does not benefit from the fourteen-day right of withdrawal for accommodation services supplied on a specified date or during a specified period. The cancellation terms set out in this Article therefore apply, subject to any mandatory statutory provisions.

When finalising the reservation, the Customer shall make their best efforts to indicate the expected arrival time, even approximately, and, where possible, to keep the Hotel informed of any change to that time.

9. Non-payment

9.1 Individual Customers: Any amount properly invoiced and remaining unpaid may be recovered in accordance with the applicable law.

9.2 Business Customers: Where the Customer is acting for business purposes, any late payment will automatically, without prior reminder, give rise to late-payment interest at the rate applied by the European Central Bank to its most recent refinancing operation, increased by ten (10) percentage points, together with a fixed recovery-cost indemnity of forty euros (€40). The rate applicable is the rate in force on 1 January for the first half of the year and on 1 July for the second half of the year.

10. Room occupancy

Every reservation is personal to the named Customer and may under no circumstances be transferred to a third party, whether free of charge or for payment. If a Customer who has made a reservation wishes other persons to use a room, the reservation must first be amended and any additional payment due must be made before those persons may access the room or rooms.

11. Access card

The room access card is issued personally to the Customer. Any loss or disappearance must be reported immediately to Hotel Reception. This identifiable card, personalised in the Hotel’s colours, must not be given to a third party and must be returned on departure. Any card not returned at the end of the stay will be charged to the Customer at twenty euros (€20) per card.

12. Video surveillance

The Hotel operates video surveillance in accordance with the laws in force, including Articles L.251-1 et seq. and R.251-1 et seq. of the French Internal Security Code, as well as the GDPR and the French Data Protection Act (Loi Informatique et Libertés) where applicable.

13. Pets

As a general rule, pets are not accepted unless expressly authorised by the Hotel. To request such authorisation, the Customer must provide an accurate description of the animal when making the reservation request. The Hotel reserves the right to refuse authorisation. An additional charge may also apply to a pet’s stay. Guide dogs and assistance dogs are accepted free of charge.

14. Use of Hotel services

14.1 Individual safe and items left behind: The Customer is encouraged to take all appropriate precautions regarding personal belongings and to use the individual safe provided. Every room is equipped with an individual safe with a code that can be set by the Customer. The Hotel’s liability remains governed by Articles 1952 to 1954 of the French Civil Code and by all other applicable statutory provisions.

If the Hotel finds items left behind by the Customer after departure, it will keep them for one year. The Customer must pay in advance any costs incurred in recovering or returning such items.

14.2 Laundry: The Hotel provides self-service washing machines and tumble dryers every day from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Their use is limited to one (1) hour per day per Customer. The Hotel does not provide laundry detergent.

14.3 Wi-Fi service: The Hotel provides access to its Wi-Fi system for Internet connectivity. From the first day of the third month of a stay, a supplement of ten euros (€10) per day will be charged for access. By using the Wi-Fi service, the Customer undertakes not to use the IT resources made available for the reproduction, representation, making available or communication to the public of works or other subject matter protected by copyright or related rights, including texts, images, photographs, musical works, audiovisual works, software and video games, without the authorisation of the relevant rights holders where such authorisation is required. The Customer also undertakes not to access unlawful websites or applications that may give rise to legal proceedings. If a Customer’s use of the Wi-Fi service is considered inappropriate or excessive by the Hotel, the Hotel reserves the right to block access by the devices concerned. The Hotel does not guarantee the speed or uninterrupted availability of the service. Each user of the Hotel’s Wi-Fi service remains entirely responsible for the cybersecurity of any device connected to it. The Hotel accepts no liability for consequences resulting from use of the service attributable to the Customer or the Customer’s equipment, subject to any liability that the Hotel cannot lawfully exclude or limit.

14.4 Luggage storage and parking: The Hotel does not provide luggage-storage or parking facilities. The Hotel accepts no liability for any fine received by a Customer for failure to comply with parking or road-use regulations.

14.5 Postal mail and delivery service: The Hotel provides, free of charge, a postal mail reception service and a notification service for other deliveries where the stay is for fewer than two (2) weeks. For longer stays, this service must be requested and will be charged at thirty euros (€30) per week; otherwise, mail and deliveries will be refused.

The Hotel shall not be liable for losses, delays or damage attributable to the carrier, sender or Customer. The Hotel remains liable for any fault attributable to it in accordance with the applicable law. For parcel deliveries, Reception will notify the Customer of their arrival. The Customer must remain reachable and arrange to receive the parcel directly from the courier. Couriers are not permitted to access the upper floors, so the Customer must come to Reception to collect parcels and deliveries.

The Hotel’s address may not be used as a registered, official or administrative address, regardless of the length of the stay.

14.6 Maintenance: All non-urgent maintenance requests must be made to Hotel Reception between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.

14.7 Suspension of services: The Hotel reserves the right to suspend access to non-essential services and facilities where their use is manifestly excessive or inappropriate, or where the Customer has not paid in full an invoice that is due, without prejudice to services required for safety or to the Hotel’s statutory obligations.

15. Noise and disturbances

The peace and quiet of the premises must be respected. Customers undertake not to make noise in rooms, common areas, corridors or staircases, particularly at night between 10:00 p.m. and 9:00 a.m.

Any noise disturbance caused by the behaviour of a person, or by an object or device under that person’s responsibility (portable Hi-Fi speaker, megaphone, horn, musical instrument, etc.), may, depending on its seriousness or if repeated, result in exclusion from the Hotel where the noise is liable to disturb the peace and quiet of other Customers (Articles R.1336-4 et seq. of the French Public Health Code).

No parties are permitted and no public event may be organised without prior authorisation.

More generally, the Customer undertakes to treat every other person with respect and, in particular, not to take photographs or videos of other Customers or Hotel employees without their prior consent.

16. Prohibitions

Smoking is strictly prohibited throughout the Hotel, including in the rooms, except on the balconies of rooms that have them.

In accordance with the French Public Health Code, smoking in the Hotel may expose the Customer to the fine applicable to a third-class offence and, where appropriate, to legal proceedings. The Hotel also draws Customers’ attention to the fact that smoke, vapour or aerosols (from cigarettes, vaping devices, candles, incense, etc.) can activate the building’s general fire alarm.

Where an unnecessary or false activation of the fire alarm is attributable to the Customer, to any occupant of the room or to any visitor, particularly as a result of failure to comply with these prohibitions, the Customer may be charged €300 as compensation for the loss caused, or €1,000 where the incident occurs between 9:00 p.m. and 10:00 a.m.

It is prohibited to use gas or electrical appliances in the rooms (portable stoves, hotplates, ovens, etc.) or any heating appliance other than those provided by the Hotel. For the same reasons, the use of multi-socket adapters and extension leads is also prohibited.

It is strictly prohibited to bring into the Hotel any dangerous object or any unlawful and/or dangerous substance, or any object resembling a firearm or liable to disturb the peace and quiet of other Customers.

Running, using skates, scooters or similar devices, or shouting in the Hotel is prohibited by day and by night. It is also prohibited to hang laundry from windows, throw any object from a window or, more generally, behave in any way liable to cause harm to Customers or staff, or damage the Hotel’s reputation.

The emergency staircases must not be used except in an emergency, during an evacuation or on the instructions of Hotel staff.

No item may be removed from a room, including linen.

17. Housekeeping

Housekeeping services rooms between 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. Daily room cleaning is included in the price, but an additional charge may be made for damaging stains or excessive soiling. The Customer agrees that authorised Hotel staff may enter the room to clean it and replace linen and consumable items, unless the Customer is present and refuses access or has notified Reception in advance. Housekeeping may not be refused for more than five (5) consecutive days. After five (5) consecutive days of refusal, the Hotel may request access to the room, after informing the Customer, in order to carry out checks necessary for hygiene, safety and maintenance.

In an emergency or where there is danger to persons or property (water leak, alarm, suspected medical emergency), the Hotel may enter the room without prior notice; the Customer will be informed as soon as possible.

18. Liability

The Customer undertakes: 1. to use the rooms and common areas reasonably; 2. to comply with safety instructions in the event of an incident or emergency, in accordance with the applicable rules; and 3. to take care of the room and common areas and not to soil them excessively, whether intentionally or through negligence, including as a result of food and drink, tobacco, etc.

The Hotel may charge the Customer directly for: 1. any damage caused by the Customer to the room or common areas; 2. any Hotel item or property missing from the room (towels, linen, access cards, lamps, etc.); and 3. any item of bedding rendered unusable (mattress, bed base, etc.).

Any plumber’s intervention made necessary by a blockage or misuse of the facilities attributable to the Customer may be charged at a minimum flat rate of five hundred euros (€500), plus any actual costs exceeding that amount.

The Customer undertakes to look after personal belongings in common areas and not to leave them unattended. The Customer must not leave any suitcase, bag or other item in common areas and, in particular, must not remove furniture or other items from the room.

Minors remain under the full responsibility of their parents and/or accompanying adult throughout the stay.

19. Processing of personal data

The Hotel processes its Customers’ personal data in accordance with applicable law, including the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the French Data Protection Act (Loi Informatique et Libertés).

Personal data collected may in particular be used for managing reservations and stays, invoicing and payments, customer relations, compliance with the Hotel’s legal and regulatory obligations and, where necessary, the establishment, exercise or defence of legal claims.

To the extent necessary for these purposes, personal data may be disclosed to the Hotel’s service providers and processors, including its IT, booking and payment providers, and to public authorities, administrations or other bodies where disclosure is required by law.

Personal data are retained for as long as necessary for the purposes for which they were collected and for any periods required or permitted by applicable law.

In accordance with applicable law, the Customer has, depending on the circumstances, rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection and data portability. These rights may be exercised by contacting the Hotel by post or email using the contact details shown on the Hotel’s official communication channels.

The Customer may also lodge a complaint with the French Data Protection Authority (Commission Nationale de l’Informatique et des Libertés – CNIL). Further information concerning the processing of personal data is available on the Hotel’s website.

20. Complaints – Consumer mediation – Applicable law – Jurisdiction

In the event of a serious or repeated breach of these provisions, in particular where the Customer’s conduct compromises safety, hygiene, the peace and quiet of the premises or public order, or in the event of non-payment, the Hotel may require the immediate departure of the Customer and of any person sharing the stay. Except where there is immediate danger, exclusion will be preceded by a warning. The Hotel may call the police. Any unused nights remaining in the stay will be retained by the Hotel as compensation, without prejudice to any charges provided for in these Terms.

Any complaint relating to a reservation or stay must first be submitted to the Hotel in writing, by post or email, using the contact details provided on its official communication channels.

After first submitting a written complaint to the Hotel, a Customer acting as a consumer may, if the Hotel’s response is unsatisfactory or the dispute has not been resolved amicably, refer the matter free of charge to the consumer mediation body to which the Hotel subscribes, namely AVENIR CONSO, within one year of the written complaint submitted to the Hotel.

The consumer mediator may be contacted either by completing the form provided for this purpose on the AVENIR CONSO website at https://www.avenir-conso.com/, or by post addressed to AVENIR CONSO, 197 Boulevard Saint-Germain, 75007 Paris, France.

These terms are governed by French law, subject to any mandatory provisions protecting consumers. Any dispute shall be brought before the courts having jurisdiction under the applicable rules of law. Customers acting as consumers benefit in particular from the rules on territorial jurisdiction laid down by the French Consumer Code.

Any dispute arising from the application of these General Terms and Conditions shall fall within the jurisdiction of the Paris courts.

The original French version of these terms shall prevail over any translation.
